Reverend Tay Lee

Minister – Brunswick Valley Uniting Church (Mullumbimby Uniting Church)

Welcome to our online home.

I’m so glad you’re here. May God’s abundant grace and love be with you as you explore our community.

I was born and raised in South Korea in a Christian family, where faith was simply part of everyday life. My parents were active leaders in our church, so going to worship and trusting in God felt natural to me as a child.

However, when I was sixteen, I began asking deeper questions: Why do I believe? Why does church matter? What happens after death?

At seventeen, in the midst of those questions, I realised something profound — the answer had been present all along. The message I had heard from the pulpit since childhood suddenly became personal. I recognised Jesus not just as a story, but as my Lord and Saviour. From that point on, faith became my own.

I initially studied Tax Accounting and Business at university and worked briefly for a newspaper company. Soon after marrying my wife, Woni, we felt called to step into an adventure of faith. In 2005, we moved to Australia and settled in Hobart, Tasmania. Those early years were formative — I learned English and worked in a variety of roles, including education agent, cleaner, kitchenhand, and tutor. Each experience shaped my understanding of people, culture, and resilience in Australia.

In 2008, we moved to Canberra to join Youth With A Mission (YWAM). I served for ten years in the training department, helping to run discipleship courses and mentor young people in their faith. During that season, I sensed a growing call to go deeper — to serve not only in mission settings, but within the life of the Australian Church itself.

After prayerful discernment, I began formal theological training at United Theological College in Sydney and was ordained as a Minister of the Word in the Uniting Church in Australia in 2022.

I believe God called me to Australia with a missionary heart — not simply to come from somewhere else, but to serve faithfully here. I am passionate about discipleship, mission, and helping the Church connect meaningfully with our local community, as well as with national and global mission. I long to see the Church flourish as a place of worship, hospitality, spiritual formation, and practical love.

I am married to Woni, who is gifted in music, teaching, art, and hospitality. Together we have two wonderfully and fearfully made children who continually remind us of God’s grace and joy.

It is a privilege to serve Brunswick Valley Uniting Church. I look forward to walking alongside you as we grow in faith, hope, and love together.

Jesus loves you, and may God bless you.
